Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis of Wechsler memory scale-revised scores in epilepsy surgery candidates

Article Abstract:

The Wechsler Memory Scale (WMS) and the revised version WMS-R are the most commonly used tests of memory function. A survey found that 84% of 82 epilepsy surgery centers use WMS or WMS-R as part of presurgical tests. However WMS-R can yield inconsistent results. WMS-R scores were analyzed in epilepsy surgery candidates, and the scores were used with receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves, to classify patients with left temporal lobe and right temporal lobe. The results showed that WMS-R scores provided relatively poor discrimination of LTL and RTL patients when used in isolation.

Hierarchical factor structure of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children - III

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the intercorrelations matrices for four different age groups on the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children - III indicates a hierarchical arrangement of abilities. The two-factor solution extracts general intelligence factor at the top of the hierarchy with the verbal-numerical-educational and the spatial-mechanical-practical factors immediately below it. The four-factor solution identifies Perceptual Organization, Verbal Comprehension, Freedom from Distractibility, and Perceptual Speed as the primary factors.

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the validity of short forms of the third edition of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children in a heterogeneous sample of child and adolescent psychiatric inpatients. Information was obtained on children admitted to an inpatient psychiatric unit in a private, nonprofit hospital. Achievement testing was then carried out for two days. Results indicated that the short forms supported solid internal and external validity.
