Repetitive and stereotyped behaviors in pervasive developmental disorders

Article Abstract:

A two-factor model of the repetitive behaviors present in many neuropsychiatric disorders, namely, sensory/motor and cognitive rigidity were conceptualized. It was indicated that subjects with pervasive developmental disorders (PDD) had higher rates of all repetitive behaviors compared to those with mental retardation (MR) only, and the lower-order behaviors appeared to be associated more with global developmental problems, whereas the higher-order behaviors associated with ruminations in the PDD group.

Impaired balance in developmental dyslexia? A meta-analysis of the contending evidence

Article Abstract:

Quantitative review of the contending evidence yielded by studies of balance in dyslexia is highlighted in a meta-analysis. The association of dyslexia and balance impairment is influenced by variables other than reading skills and deficits of balance indicate increased risk of developmental disorder, but are unlikely to be uniquely associated with dyslexia.

Gender-specific development of nonverbal behaviors and mild depression in adolescence

Article Abstract:

Age and gender differences in nonverbal behavior between mildly depressed and nondepressed adolescents during conversations with an adult and a same aged peer are discussed. It is found that females who do not exhibit other-oriented social skills might be at a high risk for depressive symptoms.
