Islam, oil and the West

Article Abstract:

Current concern by the nations of the West over the influence of Islam on the oil producing nations of the Middle East is based on a combination of misconception and overreaction. The dependency of the West on Middle East oil is balanced by the dependency of the Middle East for almost everything else. The difference in cultures which includes views of women's rights, social justice and political participation increases the chance of misunderstanding. It is unlikely that there will ever be a unified effort against the West because of the social differences existing within Islam itself.
