Sexuality and AIDS: attitudes and behaviors of adolescents in East and West Berlin

Article Abstract:

A survey conducted among East and West Berlin adolescents show that the rise of sexual liberalism is not affected by the AIDS threat. Although the subjects showed considerable knowledge about the disease, this did not lead to an increase in cautiousness and practice of safe sex. Less than 40% of sexually active adolescents surveyed consistently used condoms. Condom users were also found to hold more favorable attitudes towards this contraceptive device. Differences found in the attitudes between East and West Berliners were not significant in the formulation of AIDS prevention programs.

Adolescents' interactions with the opposite sex: influence of attachment style and gender

Article Abstract:

Adolescent sexual behaviour seems to be linked to gender and attachment style, with secure subjects reporting more satisfying and loving relationships. Anxious/ambivalent subjects reported less enduring but frequent love relationships, and fewer and less intense love relationships were reported by avoidant subjects. Male anxious/ambivalent subjects and female avoidants were the least likely to report sexual intercourse during the study. The study is further discussed.

Risk factors for alcohol use among male adolescents and emerging adults in Haiti

Article Abstract:

Worldwide, health risk behaviors including alcohol use, tobacco use and early sexual activity are a major concern in adolescence. Youth out-of-school employment and co-residence with adults who had a history of drunkenness are among risk factors associated with regular alcohol use and the greater are the number of risk factors to which a young man is exposed, the higher are the probabilities of alcohol experimentation and regular use.
