Show me the child at seven II: Childhood intelligence and later outcomes in adolescence and young adulthood

Article Abstract:

The extent to which IQ in middle childhood (8-9 years) is prognostic of future outcomes when due allowance is made for confounding personal and social factors is examined. Much of the association between early intelligence and later social adjustment is mediated by childhood conduct problems and family social circumstances but strong relationships exist between early intelligence and later academic achievement and income independently of these factors.

Early anxious/withdrawn behaviors predict later internalizing disorders

Article Abstract:

A study is presented to correlate the association between anxious/withdrawn children, at the age of eight, with the internalizing disorders when they are adolescents. It is suggested that children showing signs of anxiety at an early age should be morally supported to avoid later depression.
