The fluency heuristic in recognition memory: the effect of repetition

Article Abstract:

The influence of the repetition of target words over the use of perceptual fluency as a heuristic on a recognition memory test was examined. It was concluded that a stimulus might be perceived as familiar or unfamiliar depending on the expectations and interpretations of the observer.

Remembering and knowing in context

Article Abstract:

The way in which the memorability of the test-list context items influences the recognition judgments made for a critical set of items is examined. It was observed that the test-list context influenced the subjectsE remember/know judgments more than the source memory.

The ring of familiarity: false familiarity due to rhyming primes in item and associative recognition

Article Abstract:

The effects of nonword rhyming primes on recognition memory in both item and associative recognition were investigated. The results illuminated the way in which relations between elements in the test context can be mistaken for episodic familiarity.
