The influence of puberty and ethnicity on awareness and internalization of the thin ideal

Article Abstract:

A multiethnic group of girls in various stages of puberty showed greater internalization of an ideally thin body image as puberty progressed. No significant reactions appeared between puberty and race were noted, although non-Caucasian girls showed greater internalization of a thin ideal.

Relationship between perfectionism and specific disordered eating behaviors

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine and compare the relationships between perfectionism and specific eating disorder behaviors. The results suggest that personal standards and parental expectations are more strongly associated with fasting than with binge eating.

Gender and age differences in associations between peer dieting and drive for thinness

Article Abstract:

A study to analyze the relationship between poor dieting and drive for thinness in men and women of three varying age groups is conducted. Results indicate that the drive for thinness has been found to decline in women with age but not men.
