The psychotherapist-patient privilege in group therapy

Article Abstract:

The problem of patient confidentiality in the group therapy process can be addressed via formal protections. For example, a section of the Washington, D.C. Health and Safety Code prohibiting mental health information disclosure is used to protect the privacy of group therapy participants. This ensures confidentiality and preserves the integrity of group therapy as a valuable psychological treatment.

Elma Laurvik, Ferenczi's stepdaughter

Article Abstract:

The difficulties of maintaining an objective analyst/patient relationship is demonstrated by Sandor Ferenczi, an analyst and student of Sigmund Freud. Ferenczi fell in love with Elma Laurvik, a woman he considered as a daughter, which complicated the analytical process. Other negative outcomes included indiscretions concerning patient confidentiality and unresolved emotional issues.

The Psychotherapist-Patient Privilege in Group Therapy

Article Abstract:

Patient confidentiality in group therapy can be maintained by adopting an approach similar to one successfully implemented in Washington D.C. The District's Health and Safety Code specifically forbids mental health information disclosures by either therapists or patients in a group session, and includes civil and criminal penalties for violations.
