The treatment of the long-term sequelae of child abuse

Article Abstract:

There is little information about the prevalence and incidence of child sexual and physical abuse in the UK. Similarly, there are few well-designed studies assessing treatment for abused children and their families. Research evidence has so far not provided any clear indication about how child and family factors such as physical attractiveness can be weighted to produce a risk index for child abuse. It appears that psychological treatments are effective in enhancing the mental health of abused children. However, there is little, if any, evidence for the effectiveness of treatments on the long-term consequences of abuse.
