Time estimation in young children: an initial force rule governing time production

Article Abstract:

A distinct dissociation between force and duration only appears in children between ages 3 and 5 1/2. Responses given by the subjects suggest 3-year-olds' timing accuracy appears to be improved by force instructions which produce correct response durations. Results of the study are consistent with the assumption that childrens' duration knowledge stems from action.

Alerting attention and time perception in children

Article Abstract:

The ability in children to perceive time was studied in an experiment using a bisection task that investigated the effect of an attention-alerting signal. It was concluded that children have a basic ability to represent time because of an internal clock mechanism and that additionally children experience an age-related increase in sensitivity to time.

Temporal generalization in 3- to 8-year-old children

Article Abstract:

This article discusses a test conducted on children 3, 5, and 8 in which their temporal generalization with visual stimuli was assessed. The authors maintain the generalization gradient sharply increased with age, and there was a change from symmetrical to adult-like asymmetrical generalization in the oldest children.
