Weight status and psychosocial factors predict the emergence of dieting in preadolescent girls

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to test a longitudinal model predicting the emergence of dieting in preadolescent girls with variables related to weight status, psychological health, body satisfaction, maternal child feeding practices, and family environment. Results showed that the girls' weight status accounts for a large proportion of variance in this model, either independently or as an interaction term claiming weight status at age five years a critical factor related to dieting in young girls.
