Is Your Hourly Rate Ripping You Off?

Article Abstract:

People who run their own service companies sometimes find that no matter how hard they work, they never seem to make enough money. Often the problem is that these people are not charging enough for their experience and their expertise. There are two pricing methods which can be used - an hourly price, or a price per job. Worksheets are included in the article so that the service organization owner can follow a three-part method for determining how to charge for his services. Step one is figuring out the billable days per year - 365 minus weekends, holidays, sick days, training days, and days spent on promotion. Step two involves projecting all costs to be incurred in a year - including salaries, rent, telephone, contributions, car expenses, advertising, insurance, and many more. The last step involves using the total billable days and the total expenses, and adding in some measure for profit to determine the hourly rate which will have to be charged. By using this method, a service business owner can assure himself of charging enough money to cover expenses and make a salary.
