The $299 Visio for Windows software package from Shapeware is an innovative and very easy-to-use tool for producing professional-quality graphics. The software is targeted at the production of business and technical graphics that define relationships and processes between components, including floor plans, maps, flowcharts, marketing diagrams and organizational charts. A number of stencils are included that consist of symbols, shapes and connectors appropriate to the specific applications. All the user needs to do to create one of the graphic types is to drag and drop the object from the stencil to the target window. Templates that complement the individual stencils automatically add appropriate grids, page size and other formatting to the image. Visio also includes a range of conventional and free-form drawing tools. Drawbacks include the lack of more sophisticated drawing facilities, fonts and clip art included in some competing programs.

The $249 ImagePals image processing software for Windows is highly recommended because it is quick, easy and enjoyable to use. It contains three programs: Album, the hub program; Enhancer, a paint program; and Capture, a screen-capture utility. The three programs can be used separately but function superbly together. Album uses a photo album format which makes it easy to create files and allows users to have many albums open at once. Users can move images between albums, and ImagePals will update, back up and convert files for users. Enhancer provides image editing tools and supports scanners. Capture enables users to preset screen shots with drop shadows, key-lines and borders and places screen shots in an album. ImagePals works only with raster graphics.
