A man in full

Article Abstract:

Helical Bar Chief Executive Michael Slade has been instrumental in bringing the property company from having 6.3 million pounds sterling worth of losses in 1991, to making 8.2 million pounds sterling in profits, before tax, during Jan-Sep 1998. Slade joined the company in 1984, which was sold to the management team for 750,000 pounds sterling in 1986. Slade has undertaken a strategy of cutting back on risks and debts in order to face the next few years which he feels will not show any growth in the property market. Helical was the best performing quoted property company in the UK in 1998.

Stand-off at Crystal Palace

Article Abstract:

Redevelopment of the Crystal Palace site, London, England, has been delayed by the involvement of two environmental groups. Developers London and Regional (L and G) hope to start building on the site in Sept 1999. A multiplex cinema and leisure facility is planned for the site. The Big Willow Eco Village houses a number of environmental protestors who have built tunnels and tree houses to stop the work. Barrister Philip Kolvin has led another protest group which has used the legal process to hold up the building for 18 months, at a cost of more than 1 million pounds to L and G.
