Slaves to superstition

Article Abstract:

It is very common for the UK's property auctioneers to follow good-luck rituals. Some always use a particular gavel, while others follow a set routine before the auction begins or always wear the same item of clothing. Others take their work rather less seriously, and sometimes introduce an element of humour, such as using an unusual implement as a gavel, in order to create a more light-hearted atmosphere.
