Article Abstract:

A number of significant property development projects are taking place in Derby, England. Metropolitan Development Group and Norwest Holst expect their planned 32 million pounds sterling leisure scheme at the Cock Pitt to be on site before the end of 1999. This scheme will include a continental-style piazza, restaurants, bars and a 4,645 sq mt 12-screen multiplex cinema. MEPC will begin refurbishment of its 32,515 sq mt Eagle Centre in Mar 1999, and is considering developing 34,838 sq mt of retail space next to this facility on land already purchased.

Article Abstract:

The 37,160 sq mt Walks shopping centre in Basingstoke, England, is to undergo a 250 million pounds sterling redevelopment. When this work is completed in 2002, the centre will be known as Festival Place and have a floor area of 79,049 sq mt. It will have a significant leisure element, allowing it to operate outside shopping hours. The office property market in Basingstoke remains strong, although office occupiers want to be out of the town during the shopping centre redevelopment.
