All things to all men

Article Abstract:

A site being developed in Kent, England, will offer community amenities for residents and workers. The Kings Hill site, developed by Rouse Kent, was originally planned as a business park with 250 homes, but the ratio changed to accomodate amenities and more homes, with the hope of encouraging businesses to locate in the area. Kings Hill will provide 2.8 million square feet of business space and 1,500 homes, together with amenities including a school, hotel and university campus. Ten per cent of the land has already been developed, 400 homes are occupied and some companies are installed.

Gearing up for a space race

Article Abstract:

The planned completion of the M60 orbital motorway in 1999 has heralded an increasing interest in prospective areas for industrial development around the city of Manchester, England. Speculative construction projects are not favoured but properties for lease are becoming more scarce. Warehousing and distribution businesses are taking around 75% of the available units whilst manufacturing companies are taking the remaining 15%. Some industrial buildings need complete renovation, particularly in the East of Manchester. Some land agents predict an increase in land prices and rents.
