Looking for a free ride

Article Abstract:

The UK government is clearly determined to develop a transport policy which shifts emphasis away from the car. It is aware that radical solutions, such as using tolls on trunk roads and introducing higher car parking charges, may be necessary, and seems to have the determination to push such solutions through. It is also looking to reduce road congestion by improving the integration of existing public transport services and encouraging increased use of railways and inland waterways for freight transport. However, funding shortages may make it very difficult for local authorities to expand public transport networks.

Drive to curb out-of-town migration

Article Abstract:

Damage to the environment caused by out-of-town developments has been addressed in a report by the Round Table for Sustainable Development group. The group calls for the the United Kingdom government to become more involved in planning decisions which are not in accordance with traffic laws. They also suggest that developers should pay the true cost of damage to the environment. Critics of the report fear that restrictions on further development will cause the loss of investment and they have claimed that suggestions made in the report have little relevance to the needs of business.

Loft original

Article Abstract:

It is important to employ only the most talented architects when using space to create unusual homes, according to London Buildings' Colin Serlin. He is always keen to experiment with new ideas, and claims that he pioneered the loft concept in London, England. He is particularly interested in open spaces, and is considering using movable kitchens and bathrooms at the redevelopment of a salt depot in Camden, London, England. He always pays great attention to detail, and this can be seen in the quality of the fixtures and fittings he uses.
