Analyzing promissory notes for negotiability

Article Abstract:

Article 3 of the Uniform Commercial Code classifies promissory notes as a form of negotiable instrument that symbolizes the borrowers' promise to pay. Promissory notes can be negotiable when the maker of the note signs a statement allowing the value of the note to be transferred from the old holder to a new one. The note must also contain an unconditional promise to pay the fixed or principal amount of the note on demand at a definite time. There must not be other conditions contained in the note except for those which have been stated above.
