Back on track

Article Abstract:

There are currently a considerable number of empty retail units in the centre of Crewe, England, with this area having been negatively affected by the Grand Junction retail park. However, improvements could result from the redevelopment of 18.2 ha of derelict land in the town centre. There are signs of a revival in the town's office property market, with speculative development taking place at Crewe Business Park. There is also speculative development in nearby Nantwich, England, but this town's office property market is generally not performing very well. In contrast, its leisure sector is doing well.

Have a swinging time

Article Abstract:

Some property agents working in Birmingham, England, fear that the possibility of two 92,900 sq mt shopping centre schemes being built in the city centre could have a negative impact on the retail property market. They question whether there would be sufficient demand to fill both schemes, even though there is strong interest in well located large units. At present, the city has only one department store, and there is a large number of potential tenants.

Making a profit by design

Article Abstract:

Manchester's city centre is becoming increasingly popular as a retail location for up-market fashion stores. Designer outlets such as Donna Karan, Liberty and St Quintin have congregated in the Kings Road area of the city, the most sought-after location. Other retailers are searching for space in nearby streets such as St Anne's Street. There is a general shortage of suitable accommodation, although some office buildings are being rented for retail use.
