Beautiful noise

Article Abstract:

Sales of records in the UK reached 1 billion pounds sterling in 1995, up by 10.7% from 1994. The album market rose to around 196 million units by the beginning of 1996, having more than doubled in size since 1982. This sector was fuelled by new releases, and albums now have a market share of 55.4%. There is still strong demand for singles, with sales in 1995 exceeding 70 million units for the first time since the mid-1980s. British artists are now in a strong position, and the market looks set to see further expansion.

Short circuit

Article Abstract:

Licenced leisure operators in the UK are taking up every available space for licensed use, but are not guaranteed change-of-use permission. Licences are very hard to obtain in some areas, including Newcastle, Sunderland and Bristol. Licensed leisure outlets are generally popular with other tenants. Modern, clean and smokeless leisure outlets are being converted from buildings previously used for a variety of purposes, including offices, banks and libraries.
