New climate, new strategies

Article Abstract:

Low inflation in the UK economy has led to property becoming a less attractive investment as rents are not likely to rise. Some industry experts suggest firms should consider purchasing property to sell in the future whilst money costs less to borrow. Increases in the rate of stamp duty will cause costs to rise and also impact the level of investment in property. Although finance to support property acquisition is more cheaply available many developers are reluctant to undertake any speculative developments, due to suffering in the economic crisis during the 1980s.

Evaluating valuations

Article Abstract:

Many property bankers have a rather negative view of the RICS' new Appraisal and Valuation Manual, according to a survey by Nelson Bakewell. They still have concerns about the valuation process, and do not believe that the new manual will resolve all valuation issues. It gives 10 bases for valuing property, with five being relevant to loans secured on property.
