Best Practices Award: Australia Post leadership

Article Abstract:

Melbourne-based Australia Post, a national mail system for 18 mil homes, has managed to survive the market hurdles when its real estate management took part in business unit decisions. In only two years, the organization has strongly made the case for cost-effective space utilization. The company was able to raise real estate return from 7.3% to 10.4%, reduce costs by $13.3 mil and added $15 mil in value through property development and redevelopment. The company has been proclaimed winner of the 1997 International Development Research Council's Best Practices Leadership Award.

Fujitsu PC Corp. CEO Akio Hanada: coming to America ... and just about everywhere else

Article Abstract:

Another Fujitsu Ltd.'s US subsidiary, the Fujitsu Personal Computer Corp., entered the US personal computer market in Feb. 1996 and has already planned to introduce its first products by the 2nd qtr. of 1996. The move is believed to be a requisite to becoming the world's leading information technology company as the US remains the biggest market in the world. The firm first entered the US market with the establishment of its New York office in 1967 and the 1968 founding of Fujitsu California. It has also been establishing subsidiaries in the Asia-Pacific region and in Europe.

Article Abstract:

An analysis of corporate real estate and facilities investments in 1996 shows the dominance of Asia in attracting expansion and construction investments. It also shows the aggressiveness of Asian companies in expanding globally and the high investments made by the automotive and high technology industry for facilities. In terms of capital investments, Singapore garnered 70% of all investments bound for Asia. In terms of global location projects, Asian firms represent 60% of large capital investments.
