Chain store

Article Abstract:

The owners of the Mud Dock bicycle shop and cafe outlet are planning to open a second shop in Exeter, England. The new outlet will be located in a 15,000 sq ft warehouse on the Quay. Mud Dock was started by Jerry Arron and Beverley Newman in Bristol, England, during 1994. They spent around 100,000 pounds sterling refitting the 3,700 sq ft warehouse into a shop and cafe. The enterprise has been very successful and they sell around 600 bicycles annually. Arron and Newman plan to continue their expansion plans to other major towns throughout the UK.

Regeneration reflections

Article Abstract:

Urban development corporations (UDCs) have been very active in regenerating large areas of derelict land in the UK. However, many observers now feel that they are gradually becoming obsolete. Despite this, many UDCs are still involved in many schemes, and could undertake a great deal of work before they are eventually wound up in 1998. It has proved very difficult to assess how each individual UDC has performed, as they are all operating in very different environments.
