Conquering the world

Article Abstract:

Most leading retail groups in North America, Europe and Asia now have an international presence. This is particularly common among leading European retailers, only 3% of which are not trading outside their native markets. The latest trend is for existing international retailers to develop networks throughout several countries. Spain, France, the Netherlands and Belgium have attracted particular interest, with each receiving more than 25 foreign retail formats.

Friendly invasion

Article Abstract:

The 1993 Single European Act and the gradual abolition of trade barriers have served to boost the internationalization of the European retailing market. There are now more than 300 foreign retail chains operating in the UK, for example, while foreign retailers have also established a strong presence in Germany, France and Spain. Some retailers have entered new markets through the mail order route, while others have opted to use department store concessions.
