Emerald expansion

Article Abstract:

The Republic of Ireland, has been the recipient of European Union funding which has enabled it to assist multinational companies, such as IBM, to open up offices in the country. The Irish government has set up a public-private initiative to help replace the funding when it is removed. Some 40 hi-tech companies have opened a plant in Ireland during 1994-97. They chose to move to Ireland because of a good labour force, availability of grants and cheap land with a well devloped infrastructure. In a study Dublin has become the ninth most favoured place for business. The retail market is also buoyant.

Hoping to tip the balance

Article Abstract:

There is very little high quality office space available at present in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Agents report that there is urgent need for speculative development in the centre of the city if client demand is to be met. If this does not happen, then clients could be tempted to move to out-of-centre office locations, where car parking is more widely available and the environment is generally more pleasant.
