Fun in the sums

Article Abstract:

There has been significant expansion in the holiday village sector in the UK. Center Parcs, owned by Scottish and Newcastle, has three holiday villages in the UK. These are reasonably profitable, and enjoy 90% occupancy rates. Another key player in this sector is Rank, with its Oasis Forest holiday village in the Lake District National Park. There are indications that people are prepared to pay quite high prices for a good quality holiday. However, the prospects for the holiday village sector remain uncertain, especially as there is a shortage of woodland sites of sufficient size.

Sewing the seeds for growth

Article Abstract:

Business developments in Cheshire, England, are receiving more financial support from Cheshire council to attract businesses into the area. Over five million pounds sterling will be spent on out-of-town business parks in areas such as Warrington and Crewe. The area is well connected to the rest of the country via road, rail and airport. A substantial amount of investment will given to employee training schemes. Future industrial and business developments are expected near towns including Middlewich, Winsford and Northwich.

On the road to recovery

Article Abstract:

The county of Surrey is widely recognised as having serious road transport problems. The volume of road traffic has risen dramatically over recent years, while the government's roadbuilding programme has been reduced. County authorities are focusing their efforts on a considerable reduction in the rate of traffic growth, programming traffic schemes to achieve no growth at all after 2006. In contrast, the county benefits from a dense rail network and high levels of commuter traffic.
