Memo to: Tony Blair

Article Abstract:

Some 94% of property experts who were questioned wanted the UK government to concentrate on urban renewal rather than the development of green field areas. The survey of the property industry was undertaken by the Cameron McKenna company in 1997. Many of the respondents favoured the simplification of planning procedures and the introduction of new environmental laws. Some 93% of those questioned wanted tax incentives for brown-field developers. Changes to the transportation policy was supported by 90% of respondents who also supported the introduction of transport subsidies.

Property industry in perpetuity?

Article Abstract:

The UK real estate industry faces increased competition and should respond to needs of clients. Clients seek simpler leases which they can easily understand and traditional leases lasting 25 years or more may not be appropriate for modern business. Developers have a number of ways to reduce costs, and these include better design briefs with standard products used, and avoidance of execessive design. Technological development means that location is less important for businesses.
