Opponents face wait for referee

Article Abstract:

Two companies have put forward their plans to build new shopping centres in Bracknell, England. They are waiting for planning permission from government officials. The Bracknell Regeneration Trust suggests the larger shopping centre proposed by Legal and General will have a negative impact on retailers already in the town and cause greater traffic congestion. Legal and General representatives point out a large number of people living in the town do not use the shops but may make use their 1.3 million sq ft new development. A decision is likely in around 12 months time.

Rents on the rise

Article Abstract:

There is a severe shortage of high quality office accommodation in the centre of Edinburgh, Scotland. Furthermore, new accommodation will only start to become available in early 1999. This situation is pushing up rents, a trend that is set to continue unless there is a significant slump in the economy. Business parks on the outskirts of the city are meeting some of the demand for office space, as are town-house offices. Planning restrictions and constraints on greenfield land are making it hard to build new offices.

Mixed messages

Article Abstract:

Property developers and finance houses remain unwilling to invest in Central Lancashire, England. Industrial and office property is gradually being occupied, and there are even some indications of rental growth. Some property agents anticipate a rise in speculative development. Maple Grove Developments is considering a speculative office scheme of 1,394 sq mt to 1,486 sq mt at Sceptre Point, near Bamber Bridge, England, later in 1999.
