Productivity shift

Article Abstract:

Research looking into manufacturing in London, England, by the London Planning Advisory Committee found some of the empty industrial buildings were being left unused or the buildings were contaminated or in the wrong area. The planning authorities could help the British manufacturing industry by recognizing employers need to be on sites with good accessibility and transportation links, which are suitable for 24 hour working and where their businesses can expand. Some 2.5 billion pounds sterling each year could be lost to industry if the planning authorities limit expansion.

Manufacturing sparks better performance

Article Abstract:

Research in the UK covering the period from 1980 to 1995 indicates the regions of highest average growth to be Wales, the North, Humberside and Yorkshire, and of lowest average growth to be the South East, South West and East Anglia. An analysis of the results of this research in part shows that trends in manufacturing can affect the difference between regional rental growth. Grant provision in assisted areas aids a reduction in the rent market, thereby increasing the appeal of these areas for industry.
