Real estate alliances: from anger to acceptance

Article Abstract:

Many real estate service providers are engaged in long-term alliances with their corporate clients, indicating a trend towards outsourcing of what used to be the exclusive domain of in-house real estate executives. Although corporate real estate executives are still very much a part of corporate structures, they now devote most of their time to strategic issues, leaving transaction-oriented work to outside providers. Companies which have hired outside providers to handle their real estate needs include Baxter International, Eastman Kodak and IBM.

Cigna's infrastructure integration: remaking the corporation

CIGNA has added prestige to its name in the real estate market by developing a proactive approach to infrastructure integration. The system, dubbed as Corporate Infrastructure Resource (CIR) Management, centers on the adoption of a process-driven approach to infrastructure integration to sustain economic momentum. The CIR method further outlines measures to handle customer communications to enhance organizational efficiency. The system garnered the 1999 Best Practices Award of the International Development Research Council.

IDRC's real estate revolution: occupancy costs plummet, productivity crests

Article Abstract:

The International Development Research Council's Corporate Real Estate 2000 study is transforming the handling of real estate assets by corporations, increasing profits and boosting shareholder wealth. Companies which have saved millions of dollars from innovative workplace designs fostered by the study include Ford Motor Co, IBM and AT and T. The enormous savings is not surprising given the vast resources invested by these companies in facilities and land.
