Rival schemes face screen test

Article Abstract:

The demand for retail space in Gloucester, England, is strong. Some property agents are concerned there is insufficient demand for both multiplex schemes planned for Gloucester. It is suggested the Blackfriars development could be used for retail units instead. The new road link to the M5 via junction 11a has increased demand for industrial space in the Gloucester area. Some speculative industrial and office development is planned by Bennett Construction. King's House is being changed into a leisure operation and some new leisure units are also planned for the 62 acre Cattlemarket site.

Change of phase

Article Abstract:

The industrial property market, in South Wales, has been affected by the change in ownership of 18 industrial estates from the Welsh development Agency to Ashtenne Investment. It is possible the region will lose its favoured status and its grant assistance which will make new developments less attractive. The economic crisis in Southeast Asia may in turn reduce future development, in Wales. Some 247 million pounds sterling was used to encourage the LG Group to invest 1.7 billion pounds sterling on new plants in Wales. There are 380 foreign companies in South Wales.

Development by design

Article Abstract:

Companies with specialist requirements are looking to design-and-build accommodation to suit their growing needs. As the demands of companies change due to expansion, their quest for suitable accommodation becomes more difficult. With speculative industrial property developments no longer available the design-and-build schemes are preferential. These schemes can be potentially cheaper, be provided in a short space of time and suit the clients' requirements.
