Security - the ultimate deterrent

Article Abstract:

Shopping centres can attract large crowds of people, and serious security problems can arise if a disturbance takes place. Centres which are not dedicated as highways or subject to a walkways agreement are private property, and security is therefore the responsibility of the centre manager. The use of security guards and closed-circuit television is usually enough to deal with minor incidents, and police support can be requested if necessary. A recent court ruling indicates that a centre owner can permanently ban people who persistently cause trouble.

European shopping centres today

Article Abstract:

There is wide variation in the number and size of shopping centre developments in different European countries. However, it can be stated in general terms that it is necessary to have one or more 'anchor' stores if a development is to be really successful, and that it is increasingly common for shopping centres to be constructed and managed as partnerships between anchor retailers and local developers. Many European shopping centres now include other facilities, such as sports centres and food courts.
