Article Abstract:

The area around Knightsbridge, London, England, houses many of the internationally renown fashion stores which has helped to create excessive demand for outlets in the area. Rental values are around 320 pound sterling per sq ft in 1997 from levels of 200 pounds sterling per sq ft during the early 1990s. The department store Harrods is planning to develop an adjacent 25 million pounds sterling building into offices and residential units. A speculative building project at Sloane Street was prelet to Holland Holland.

DTZ Debenham Thorpe has been working with Granada Group PLC to help them develop their new motorway service areas which incorporate shopping facilities. They plan to open shopping centres at 20 motorway sites throughout the UK, at a cost of 10 million pounds sterling, by Easter 1999. They intend to let the shops to well-known high street stores as well as having their own outlets. The shops will be between 500 sq ft to 1,000 sq ft in size. Some 120 million people visits a Granada service station annually.

Town of two centres

Article Abstract:

Retail chains are competing against one another in two areas of Kendal, England, making planners increasingly concerned about traffic congestion. The Elephant's Yard retail center has been upgraded to attract new tenants in response to the development of attractive retail facilities at the Westmorland Center. The one-way road system around Stricklandgate is perceived to be the cause of the congestion.
