South East sets trend - yet again

Article Abstract:

The improvement in the UK economy has lead to an increasing demand for office space in the South East of England, with some 11.84 million sq ft taken up in London during 1996. Rent levels in the South East and London grew by up to 20% in 1996 but this pattern has not been repeated throughout the UK, with some companies reporting that rents in Scotland declined by 1%. The extension to the Manchester Airport in the North of England is likely to increase office demand in the area and some Scottish agents report increased business activity which they predict will improve rent levels by up to 8%.
