Speed merchant

Article Abstract:

Former motor racing champion Jonathan Palmer aims to invest 5 million pounds sterling during 1999-2004 in a corporate motor sport centre at Thurleigh Airfield near Bedford, UK. The 156ha site will become a centre for driver training and corporate driving events, with Palmer signing a 50-year lease for the site. Palmer admits he was frustrated by the lengthy planning process, but he was methodical in dealing with legalities as they arose. Palmer plans to refurbish 10,000 sq mt of buildings at Thurleigh and may sublease some space to firms in the motor sport business.

In need of retail therapy

Article Abstract:

Institutions tend to be very hesitant in their approach to managing shopping centres, being unwilling to take any risks. Committees tend to dominate, and the decision-making process can be slow. It is now time to look to the US for examples of how management procedures can be improved. There, the needs of the customer are given a clear priority, and centres offer the right shops in the right locations.
