Successful self-promotion

Article Abstract:

The property market of North East England has benefitted from government efforts to promote economic regeneration in the region. The region has three of the UK's seven remaining enterprise zones, and as well as offering financial aid, the government has also provided practical help to incoming firms. The area has attracted large manufacturing and service investments, thanks partly to aggressive marketing and the efforts of the region's development corporations. For example Tyne & Wear Development Corporation says it has attracted 760 million pounds sterling of private investment.

Occupiers opt for a bespoke service

Article Abstract:

There was a steady property demand from the distribution industry in 1994 and the trend is set to continue into 1995, but the nature of the demand is moving away from speculative space and towards purpose-built facilities. More retailers and producers are formulating long-term logistics strategies and can afford to wait for bespoke distribution units. There were few speculative lettings in 1994, but demand in 1995 is set to increase and nearly all the empty speculative units are under offer.

Savings which can't be ignored

Article Abstract:

Calculating capital allowances is usually a complicated procedure, but the outcome can have a strong influence in assessing the viability of an office development project. Capital allowances are not actually intended to encourage office development, but this is often the case in practice. There have been many legal cases which have set precedents in this area, and this is likely to continue to be the case, even though the Inland Revenue has announced plans to reduce the role of allowances.
