Telecom, labor driving North America's call center explosion

Article Abstract:

The expansion of call center and back-office facilities in North America, led by Texas, Florida and Ohio, is motivated by several factors. Call center companies look for skilled preferably multi-lingual speaking and computer-literate manpower whom they can pay at reasonable cost. In addition, site-seeking companies consider the available telecommunications facilities of an area. Preference is given to locations with access to modern technology like fiber optics, integrated services digital network and digital switching.

Europe's best business locations: a closer look

Business climates across Europe are generally very favorable despite differences in the investment atmosphere from one location to another. Ernst and Young LLP's 'European Investment Monitor' report on the continent's 10 most preferred investment destinations listed, in order of ranking, the UK, France, Germany, Belgium, Poland, Ireland, Hungary, Spain, Netherlands and Austria. According to the report, these nations attracted the largest numbers of new and expanded corporate facilities in 1998.

Europe 1998: full-bore telecom competition boosts options, cuts costs for expanding firms

Article Abstract:

The liberalization of Europe's telecommunications industry will be completed with the opening of public telecommunication networks in Jan. 1998. This early, public telecommunication operators are forming collaborations with the aim of helping firms that are putting up or extending their business in Europe. The proliferation of these alliances is seen to create a competitive market that will benefit relocating firms.
