The Agent's tale

Article Abstract:

The city of Canterbury, Kent, is a popular tourist destination as well as a successful shopping centre. However, such popularity causes serious environmental problems, particularly traffic congestion and the damage to ancient buildings caused by exhaust gases. The local planning strategy is to restrict commercial growth in order to minimise traffic around the city centre and there are few new offices being built. Demand for retail space in the city is high and industrial areas are being redeveloped to widen the retail base.

Fight for berth rights

Article Abstract:

There are many factors to take into account when planning a marina development in the UK. It is vital that a marina is designed to be an integral part of its location, thus attracting users and generating income. For this reason, latest marina developments include features such as restaurants, hotels and cinemas. Local authorities are now becoming aware that a successful marina requires between 400 and 450 berths.

The Midtown district of London, England was an area of much development activity during the late 1980s but this has now diminished. Just 381k sq ft of space mostly as small units was on offer at end Sep 1994 and take up in first nine months of 1994 was 369k sq ft of which new units accounted for 65k sq ft. The prospects for 1995 are not very bright, particularly as the Crossrail project has been delayed again.
