The growth of the lodging industry for nearly a decade has not peaked according to some analysts but henceforth lenders will be using conservative underwriting standards, capitalization will be on a selective basis and the industry better prepared to confront the challenges ahead.

Issues are presented concerning the success of extended-stay hotels and the interest of property developers in them. The development of hotels by brand owners and franchisors is discussed. Profit margins and operating costs are considered.
