The ecology of new ways of working: non-territorial offices

Article Abstract:

Non-territorial offices wherein exclusive work stations are not provided for employees was studied in seven companies in the US, UK, Europe and Japan. There are various office designs in the different firms such as cellular offices, standardized sytems furniture workstations and home and garden concepts. The non-territorial office concept was adapted to reduce space requirements, increase productivity, enhance teamwork and increase cost savings. Implmentation is usually done by senior management. It is suggested that the staff ahould also be consulted in developing an integrated design for acceptance and efficiency.

Privatization: it often doesn't work, increases costs and lacks accountability

Article Abstract:

The American Federation of Government Employees announces its opposition to privatization, particularly if it fails to protect public interest. Privatization, which is often a product of corporate greed, costs taxpayers more, often gives rise to fraud, waste and abuse, negatively affects local communities and saves money by replacing family wage earners in the workforce with poorly-paid, private sector workers. Although public officials are duty-bound to serve, benefit and protect their constituents, public officials often use the scheme to promote their own political goals.
