Location is the main selling point for companies deciding to distribute freight through the new Daventry International Railfreight Terminal (DIRFT) in the East Midlands. The private sector operation offers firms the service of fast, efficient rail or road delivery using existing infrastructure. Building the new terminal from scratch has allowed European standards to be implemented which could eventually result in DIRFT being granted customs point status.

Labour ditches third party right of appeals

Article Abstract:

Plans to establish a third party right of appeal on all planning decisions have been abandoned by the UK Labour party. This approach, which had attracted considerable controversy, will now only be used when councils approve schemes on land they own or have an interest in and act contrary to their own development plans, according to the party's new plans. It has also committed itself to implementing strict time limits for processing appeals.
