On location

Article Abstract:

The British cinema market is becoming a more attractive investment for a variety of investors, such as company pension funds. Smaller cinema operators have benefitted from changes in the UK market during 1999. One of the larger operators is no longer active in the UK whilst another has reduced its committments. Some observers point out in a few locations there are too many cinema outlets but the site of a cinema often determines its level of business despite nearby competition. Investors from overseas, particularly Europe, are looking to invest in the UK cinema market.

A change of pace

Article Abstract:

The counties of Staffordshire and Shropshire, England, lack many of the leisure facilities found in other parts of the country despite being the location for several important tourist sites. The well developed motorway network means that residents are able to travel easily to reach cinemas and other leisure developments outside the area. A new leisure development is planned for Shrewsbury but the local authorities are unwilling to permit further public house developments. Alton Towers theme park is located at Stafford but the town lacks other types of leisure facilities.
