Virgin territory

Article Abstract:

The property market in Crawley, England, is buoyant. The proximity of Gatwick Airport is important here, with direct income from Gatwick putting 140 million pounds sterling into the local economy each year and a further 12 millon pounds sterling going indirectly to local firms. Property activity in the area includes the Virgin Atlantic Airways new UK headquarters, which should be completed by summer 1997, a 42,355 square foot speculative development from Canadian & Portland Developments and outstanding planning consents which together total one million square feet of space.

Rising demand in the flat lands

Article Abstract:

Demand for office space in Cambridge, England has increased with some 12 months' accommodation remaining. Rents fell between 1989 and 1992 to 50% of previous levels, but rose again in 1995. Investment is increasing as a result of this rise in demand. Traffic congestion can be a problem despite good railroad links. Retail rents are rising in the center of Cambridge and there is little space available for new development in the retail sector.
