Warter works for Budget-beaters

Article Abstract:

The market for farmland in the UK has not been as negatively affected by the 1998 Budget as had been anticipated. There are around 18,211 ha of farmland available in the market, substantially higher than in spring 1997 and close to the peak of Jun 1997. A large proportion of this land is accounted for by the 4,820 ha Warter Priory estate on the Yorkshire Wolds, which is believed to be the largest in-hand farming estate in England. It has a large amount of fertile, mainly arable, land, and has an international reputation for partridge and wild pheasant shooting.
