Waterfront contender

Article Abstract:

Several new development schemes around Dartford, Kent, England are coming to fruition which is likely to increase job opportunities in the area and improve leisure and retail facilities. Crossways was know as a distribution centre before the construction of some speculative office buildings and the letting of industrial sites to Next PLC and Boots The Chemist. Dartford town centre has little available office space. Bluewater, the new leisure and retail centre, is due to open in Spring 1999. Ebbsfleet is proposed as the site of a international passenger terminal for the Channel Tunnel.

Short of stock

Article Abstract:

Some property agents point out many office occupiers would favour moving to space at Docklands, London, England, rather than move into an office building on the outskirts of the City, London. A few areas on the outskirts are now considered to be part of the City, such as the development at Broadgate. Few large buildings are available to rent. But there is little evidence of new building development going ahead particularly as an economic recession in the UK is feared by many. Some office space has been converted into housing.

Beating the doldrums

Article Abstract:

The office property market in Glasgow, Scotland, remains rather weak, with problems being created by structural changes to local government and by uncertainty over devolution. Occupiers are becoming more cautious, and many are now unwilling to make long-term commitments. However, inquiry rates have begun to rise recently, and the market may begin to see a revival in 1997 if prelets are agreed.
