Western influence

Article Abstract:

CB Richard Ellis Chairman Jim Didion sees his company's new UK acquisition as being able to offer a international service as demanded by their clients. CB had sales worth $730 million, with a net income of $24.3 million in 1997. It purchased the UK based company, Hillier Parker, in Jul 1998, for 60 million pounds sterling. CB had a previous UK alliance with DTZ Debenham Thorpe which ended after five years. Didion indicates the relationship with Hillier Parker should be more successful because the US company has overall control. They are considering moving into European fund management.

UK and European Investments (UKI) was started in 1994, as a subsidiary to the Lewis Trust Group. The Trust is owned as a private company by the Lewis family and it recorded pretax profits of 59 million pounds sterling for 1997. UKI has grown to hold a portfolio worth 105 million pounds sterling in 1998, from 80 million pounds sterling in 1994. UKI Property Director Robert Greacen is looking to acquire more industrial property, to widen the company's portfolio although he wishes to avoid the retail warehouse sector. Resignation hits Dusco on eve of fund launch

Article Abstract:

Retail fund manager Dusco has seen the resignation of Paul Oliver as managing director of its UK operations. This follows clashes over policy with Dik Dusseldorp, the founder of Dusco. This comes as Dusco prepares to launch Dusco Real Property, a securitised property unit trust, on the UK stock exchange in autumn 1996. It is believed that the two men could not agree on issues including the likely source of investors in this new unit trust.
