What a hullabaloo!

Article Abstract:

Hospitality industry experts point out it is important to judge consumer demand before opening a concept restaurant or public house. Some industry observers suggest custom for themed outlets, in the UK, will decline by 20%, by the year 2003. Others point to the increasing problem of finding new sites within retail areas. Some independent operators claim larger companies often purchase complete chains of restaurants rather than developing their own ideas. Customers are allowed to bring their own drink to Hullaballoos restaurants, whilst It's a Scream public houses are aimed at students.

Going underground

Article Abstract:

The leisure property market in Leeds, England, has seen strong growth since 1996. Pub operators such as Greenalls are seeking to add to existing units in the city, and there are a number of restaurant operators and clubs looking for accommodation. The lack of suitable sites continues to put land values under pressure, and this is creating difficulties for independent operators. Cinema and hotel operators are also keen to establish a presence in Leeds.

Running your own show

Article Abstract:

Would-be entrepreneurs in the UK hospitality industry first have to raise capital to run their own pub, restaurant or hotel. Leisure and catering accounted for 7% of UK business start-ups in 1995, and this proportion is increasing though the number of start-ups fell in 1994. New entrants are more realistic in 1996 with only some 25% new to the industry. Business estimates can be carried out by specialists and private investors can help with finance.
