From the 'politic' to the 'economic': has economic reform succeeded in the Arab world?

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze possible successes in economic reform initiatives in the Arab world. The study also analyzed the possibility of a more democratic state in the Arab world to support the success of economic reforms. Results indicated that economic reform remains stagnant within the state between liberalizing and statist elites. Several factors have contributed to this dilemma, including political opposition, unique nature of Arab kinship and tribal relationship, and timidness of the private sector.

Article Abstract:

The economic liberalization policy in India covering the period 1977-1989 is analyzed with respect to its effect on four factors, namely, exports, growth, investment and industrial production. Previous to this 12-year period, the country had adopted an import-substitution policy with disastrous results.
