India-Pakistan cooperation on energy and environment: to enhance security

Article Abstract:

Collaborative efforts between India and Pakistan to establish projects on energy and sustainable development will benefit both countries. Such efforts will also enhance the security of both countries. Although neither of the two will scale down their military strength, projects such as an integrated gas supply or joint development of renewable energy sources would make them realize that security can only be assured through mutual expectation and cooperation.

Development cooperation and human rights: Indonesian-Dutch aid controversy

Article Abstract:

The relations between Indonesia and Netherlands faced problems due to Indonesia's human rights issue. Jakarta broke all ties with the Dutch in Mar 1992 in a tactical move, when Netherlands made aid conditional. However, relations were reestablished in Sept 1992, when General Suharto conducted talks with the Dutch Minister of Education To Ritzen. The issue suggests that donor countries should not be discouraged in fighting for human rights.

Software rights and Japan's shift to an information society: the 1993-1994 copyright revision process

Article Abstract:

Japan failed in its attempt to change the copyright law governing its software industry in 1993-1994 for a number of reasons. One was the conflict between hardware producers and users, who want software to be easily imitated, and software manufacturers, who want to protect their designs from imitation. However, US opposition to the proposal was the major reason why the copyright revision process was eventually halted.
